We at DamnYouOhio.com are lifelong, committed Ohioans. While the negative angle may make you feel uncomfortable, that is somewhat the point. (We would be lying if we didn't admit that some of this stuff is just painfully funny.) The only way things will get better is to be completely clear and unafraid of our problems. This is what people are saying about our state; if we can't listen to them how can we make it better?

Damn You Ohio: The Time Warner Cable Ad in Today's Akron Beacon Journal
I was wrong when I said:
Oil is over $70 a barrel and the Gulf Coast refineries are shut down. How long do you think it's going to take to see $3/gallon for gas? I'm guessing it's next week.
I just saw $3.09/gallon today!. I wanted to moblog it but I was too slow. I'll get a picture of it tonight. Damn You Ohio: The Time Warner Cable Ad in Today's Akron Beacon Journal

The Time Warner Cable Ad in Today's Akron Beacon Journal
In the Wednesday, August 31, 2005 Akron Beacon Journal there is a big ad on A4 that reads: "It cost me over $1000.00 in fines and 20 days in jail... it's just not worth it" This guy got that time for stealing cable.
This is all in today's newspaper which reports:
- Katrina will be costliest natural U.S. disaster.
- Cleveland is now #12 on the list of most poor cities. ...still crappy if you ask me with "only" 23.3 percent of people below the poverty line this year. To make the jump it did, there is something wrong with the report. It's not a natural jump. Either last year's report was wrong or this year's report is wrong. Usually in statistics, both are wrong and the numbers are somewhere in the middle.
- 1.1 million more Americans join legions of poor
- Oil is over $70 a barrel and the Gulf Coast refineries are shut down. How long do you think it's going to take to see $3/gallon for gas? I'm guessing it's next week.
- Natural gas prices are through the roof. This will probably be the costliest winter ever to heat our homes.
And now Time Warner is ready to send you to jail.
F- you Time Warner! People have got enough to worry about right now. Yeah, I'm sorry people are stealing your crappy cable. Maybe you could make it more affordable so guys like that poor sap in your ad can watch your fuzzy feed.

Governor Taft discloses more gifts
``Over six years (1999-2004), Gov. Taft received gifts from more than 1,800 sources,'' a news release said.
I was wondering why they were making such a big deal over those golf games. It appears they were just the tip of a very greased ice burg.

Akron & Canton Among Most Affordable Places To Buy Houses
This news story all depends if you are in a glass half empty or glass half full sort of mood.
The Akron and Canton areas are among the most affordable places in the nation to buy a house, according to the National Association of Homebuilders.
The bad news is that the trade association's research shows home values have not been going up much in recent years.

OK... excuse me as I make my way to the top of my soap box.
Isolationism in a plurality only makes things worse.
As I started my move from Medina Ohio to the big city of Akron Ohio I was nervous. I always had lived in the country and I wasn't sure what it would be like living in a metropolitan area. To make matters worse, the newspaper and people in my life didn't help. Reading the crime watch for Akron is a whole different ballgame than reading the crime watch for Medina. There's a lot more death, rapes and just plain ugliness. I was also told that the area of town I was moving to was very gay. I'm not exactly sure what that meant. But it was told to me in a very serious, you-better-watch-out kind of way.
I've now lived here going on 3 years. I have never been raped, murdered, beat up or even stolen from. I do happen to run into some gay people every once in a while. But believe it or not, they aren't having some lude sex in front of me or anything. They are usually picking up carry-out or grocery shopping when I happen to run into them.
But here is what did happen to me since I moved to Akron. People who were once a mystery to me are now part of my life. Once you see a place or a person for your own eyes, it's not as bad as you imagine it to be. By being closer to things that frighten people in Medina actually make the world less frightening.
What I'm saying is, the more you close yourself off from the world, the more frightened you are going to become. You can't make the world go away. You are needlessly scaring yourselves.
Opening your heart and finding love for what frightens you is what will set you free. Closing down and ignoring or even hating what you don't like will only bring the hell for which you fear closer to your life.

OfficeMax Leaving Shaker Heights - moving to Chicago
600 jobs at a time is how you depress an area. Things can start to look pretty ugly if this kind of thing keeps happening.
