We at DamnYouOhio.com are lifelong, committed Ohioans. While the negative angle may make you feel uncomfortable, that is somewhat the point. (We would be lying if we didn't admit that some of this stuff is just painfully funny.) The only way things will get better is to be completely clear and unafraid of our problems. This is what people are saying about our state; if we can't listen to them how can we make it better? |

am I crazy? I just can't see how a few games of golf can be a felony. When I go out for meetings, someone in the group always takes care of the tab, we hardly ever dutch it. I don't know if there are other issues that he has taken gifts on, but golf and lunch with a group and someone picking up the whole groups tab doesn't quite seem like a crime. A fat giftcard to best buy, maybe, a check on the side, definately but some golf?? OK Ohio sucks in a lot of ways but isn't there something more important to waste tax dollars on??
I completely agree with you. The tragedy here is more of the whole situation than of what he did. I find it highly unlikely that no governor ever got a free game of golf before.
We are micromanagers of our governing officials these days. In fact, we do it to anyone who dares enter the political spot light... potential Supreme Court Justices, war protesters, anybody.
On one hand, I'm glad we aren't allowing ourselves to be duped. On the other hand, it's much ado about nothing these days.
Ohio sucks at so much right now and the front page is a golf game conspiracy. Unfortunately, terrible environmental issues and failing schools are not front page material.
Thanks for writing.

So I had a hard copy of the paper this afternoon and saw that Taft had "reminded" other people in his cabinet that they are not to let people pay for their golf at a conference a while back. Now that was ironic. No matter what the deal, we are surely only given select info depending on the institution it comes from. The whole truth would be so refreshing. And you are right, so much more should be on the front page, I won't even go into the schools or how it cost me $100 to fill up today..... Even more confused....
Ohio is the true quagmire of our lives.
Wife assualted in Columbus,Ohio hospital while working. Supervisor's were informed by 4 witnesses. Supervisor's refused to take action. Wife take's action to the The Ohio Civil Rights Commission. After 7 months, they finally decided to investigate the assualt. After they interviewed the man in question and he admitted more than once to the assualt in a written statement plus comfirmed by no less than 3 eyewitnesses. The Ohio Civil Rights Commission finds for the hospital "lack of evidence". I see that in Ohio if your not BLACK you don't have an issue for descrimination. Moving to CANADA!!! A safer place to live.

Sorry for deleting a comment. I will make a policy of not doing that. But that post was just profanities. I felt the person's pain, though.
I'm sorry for your wife's assault. Not getting justice when being wronged, has got to be one of the most helpless feelings. Have you considered talking with a personal injury attorney? If there's a case, your wife very well might have some opportunity for compensation. The great thing about personal injury attornies is that you don't have to pay unless there is an award.
Sage, Thanks for the response. The hospital in question(located on the east side of Columbus,Ohio like most other good Catholic Organizations are becoming known the world for sexual misconduct. We have been in contact with an attorney. What we have done is compiled a list of over 5 women who have left in the past 3 years for sexual advances by supperiors. As the Great Ohio Attorney Generals Office quoted us "We don't act on personal injury cases involving employees" I guess we'll see what happens when we go to trial. By the way, My wife signed over all proceeds of said lawsuit tobe divided between the attorney and a Battered Womens Recovery Group.
Best wishes on your suit. It's too bad that things have to get so bad that people have take legal action. Why can't people just do what's right. This very well might turn into something good, however. A corrupt system will get exposed. Your wife will be redeemed. And a Battered Womens Recovery Group will get a very nice donation. I'm sorry you have to go through all you are going through. But maybe your wife will help others not have to.
Take care.
